One of my parents favorite things to do was go to yard sales on Saturdays and pickup little knick knacks to put around the house. Everything we bought was pretty cheap and old, but a family in New York hit it big when they purchased and old beige ceramic bowl.
They were intrigued by the floral design and decided to purchase it for just $3!
It turns out that the old cheap bowl was a “Ding” Bowl from the Northern Song Dynasty in China. It is one of the most sought after ceramic antique pieces.
Sotheby’s put the ceramic piece up for auction stating that “Only one other bowl of the same form, size and almost identical decoration is known; the piece in the British Museum London.”
The bowl went up for auction in 2013 and ended up going for a cool $2,225,000!
