Noela Rukundo was on a trip in Burundi, Australia when her husband paid kidnappers $7,000 to kill her. According to the BBC, Rukundo confronted her husband and mourners at her own funeral by saying, “Surprise! I’m still alive!”. Could you imagine the look on her husband’s face?!
The hit men held Rukundo at gunpoint, but couldn’t pull the trigger as they didn’t want to kill a women or her children. They also gave her recordings of the conversations between them and Kalala so she could indict him.
The hit meant then told Kalala that the job “Had been done”. Believing the men, Kalala made up an elaborate story that his wife had been killed in a tragic accident in Africa.
He has pleaded guilty and is currently serving a nine-year sentence, but will be eligible for parole in six years, Rukundo is moving forward with her life saying: “I will stand up like a strong woman. My situation, my past life? That is gone. I’m starting a new life now.”
“I knew he was a violent man,” Rekundo told the BBC. “But I didn’t believe he can kill me. I loved this man with all my heart! I give him, beautiful and handsome, two boys and one girl. So I don’t know why he choose to kill me.”
