There’s a brainteaser that’s making it’s way around the internet right now and it’s confusing the crap out of everyone! Some people are referring to it as “fruit algebra” – it’s basically a math problem using apples, coconuts, and bananas. There’s been a bunch of different versions of this same puzzle making it’s rounds online since December.
It looks extremely simple at first, but as you read over it again – it gets more confusing..
And no one can agree on what the correct answer is!
So, let’s figure this out together.. or at least try!
Let’s assume that each apple is worth 10, and that’s how they’re equalling up to 30.
Then, if you take the one apple (10) and add it to the two sets of bananas equalling 18, that probably means each set of bananas counts as 4.. right? Right.
Now, here come the coconuts halves. If we subtract two coconut halves from a set of bananas, it equals 2, meaning each coconut half counts as 1.
So, for the last part, they really try to trick you! We have one coconut half, an apple and a set of bananas, so it would seem as though the answer would be 16 – but it’s SO not.
Look a little closer, they only gave us one coconut half this time and the banana set seems to only show 3 bananas in it, instead of 4.
That would be 1 + 10 + 3 = 14! So, that’s what we believe the answer is. What’s your guess?
