Imagine being sound asleep in your bed when a huge earthquake hits. There wouldn’t be much you could do to help save yourself in the event that the building you’re in is collapsing around you. That’s what the inventors of the new “Earthquake Bed” had in mind when they started designing these to save lives.
It looks like a normal bed, but once it senses the ground shaking, it drops you on your mattress into a sealed box that’s filled with supplies. It’s assumed that the person would remain in the box until the earthquake is over or until rescued, but there is no information on how to get out of the box. The box would also contain bottles of water, food, tools, and medical supplies, but how you can get to these supplies is also unknown at this point.
This seems like a great idea, but it also seems terrifying to drop into your coffin at any sense of movement. I wouldn’t think I’d be comfortable sleeping atop a metal-box-contraption that could swallow me up whenever it wanted to. What are your thoughts?
