Apples are one of the most popular health snacks you can back…Or so you thought! It turns out, that most store-bought apples are covered in a cancer causing wax.
Apples produce a natural wax on their own, but many are covered by a harmful food-grade wax so they can have a longer shelf life.
The best thing to do is to purchase your produce from local farmers markets so you know it is fresh. Otherwise, you can fill the sink with about 4 inches of lukewarm water and add 1 tablespoon of both lemon juice and baking soda.
Then, put the apples in the water and scrub them with a veggie scrub brush (available at most grocery stores). Rinse them and pat them dry. This should remove most of the petroleum wax that is harmful to your health.
