We’ve all seen these pesky weeds growing around our homes. Personally they tend to pop up right on my walkway so i am reminded of them everyday I leave for work. I am constantly reminded that I need to A) hire a better gardener, or B) get down on my hands and knees and pull those suckers myself! However, I just learned something very interesting, the purslane weed actually can have some awesome health benefits!
Purslane is high in vitamins and minerals which boost the overall health, and the high amounts of iron and calcium support bone health. After a bit of research I’ve even found some delicious salad recipes utilizing the weed.
Its seeds are extremely strong, and the plant may survive over 25 years, meaning that it significantly strengthens the immune system.
More than most weeds, purslane contains a healthy dose of vitamin A which is actually more than most leafy vegetables. It also is abundant in Omega-3 fatty acids which means its a great preventative to stroke or heart disease.
It may not be the prettiest of plants when it’s growing around your house but be sure to think twice next time you are just throwing them away!
