The 57-year-old pop star was hospitalized last week after his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Illinois. His representatives said he had been battling a bad case of the flu and he was released a few hours later.

The singer appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay, TMZ reported.

Prince’s debut album in 1978 included hit albums such as 1999, Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Sign O The Times and Batman, among others.

Purple Rain, released in 1984, was his first No. 1 album on the Billboard chart. The album (and film of the same name) earned him two Grammys, an Oscar and Favorite Pop/Rock Album at the 1985 American Music Awards.

Over his career, Prince sold over 100 million albums.
