Heart-Wrenching Video Of Newborn Shows Why You Shouldn’t Take Drugs During Pregnancy

The footage below highlights why it is so important to be conscious of what you are ingesting during pregnancy, especially when it comes to drug use. After all it’s not just your health and wellbeing that you have to think of, but the innocent and vulnerable person inside you.

According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse, “Every 25 minutes [in America], a baby is born suffering from opioid withdrawal.” Braxton is one of these babies. He entered the world hooked on drugs, a dependency he inherited from his mother, Clorissa Jones, who had been prescribed methadone to help her kick her heroin addiction. He has had to overcome “withdrawal symptoms, tremors, oversensitivity, and he still has difficulty feeding.”

Paediatrician Dr. Lauren Jansson revealed that this isn’t a unique case, “It is [an] epidemic. The opioid crisis in this country is continuing to expand exponentially.” This may come as a shock to you but Braxton is in fact one of the lucky suffers.

Reuters revealed that in the past decade over 130,000 children were born with drug addiction but many of them are not being reported. Although US law states that hospitals must inform social services if a baby is born with drug dependency, this isn’t happening. Meaning that families are not getting the support they need and they are suffering the consequences – in 2010 alone it is believed that 110 infants who lost their life as a result of this could have been prevented.

Braxton’s older brother was born addicted to heroin. Clorissa shockingly revealed on camera: “I was in labour in the bathroom shooting heroin about to give birth to my second child.” He was later taken away by social services after she crashed into a parked car while speeding on route to pick up gear. Yesterday she regained custody.
