In Des Moines, Iowa, a 13-year-old girl named Peri Sagun, has died from a freak hammock accident that happened this past Saturday.

The hammock at the Sagun’s home was connected on one end to a tree and on the other end to a brick pillar light post next to their driveway. As Peri jumped into the hammock to join her sister on Saturday, the brick pillar came crashing down onto her head.

The column was only a few inches into the ground with nothing really supporting it for reinforcement. Peri’s sister Eren quickly called for her dad, Mustafa Sagun, who immediately attempted CPR on Peri, along with first aid.

It was reported that Peri was unable to breath and blood was coming out of her mouth. Peri later died after being transported to the hospital.

Peri was in the 8th grade at St. Augustin Catholic School and she was also an honor student with dreams of attending college for interior design.

She was a very kind girl who was loved by many. A family member shared on Facebook:

Such a sad and very tragic story. We are sending our thoughts and love to the Sagun family at this time.
