A lot of people, and sometimes myself included, fall asleep with our phones underneath our pillows. Turns out – scary things can happen if you do, and after you read this, you probably never will again!
The NYPD 33rd Precinct tweeted a few photos of cell phones overheating and catching on fire while placed in beds while people are fast asleep. Along with the photos they wrote, “Don’t put your cellphone under a pillow when sleeping or when charging your device.”
As you can see from the terrifying photos, it’s never a good idea to put your phone under your pillow while you sleep, because you could potentially wake up with your phone on fire in bed with you.
It is also said as a warning by cell phone manufacturers that you should never cover your phone and restrict it’s airflow by putting it under clothing, your body, or a blanket. If the batteries overheat, they could explode and/or cause a fire.
These rules are the same for laptops, tablets, or any electronic devices that could potentially overheat. For example, this could happen from a bluetooth speaker!
Please be aware of these dangers that could occur from placing your electronic devices in areas that could smother them and cause major damage to your home, or yourself.
