Man Is Being Called “World’s Best Dad” After What He Did For His Son After Cancer Surgery

John Marshall, a 28-year-old man and father, received terrible news that his son Gabriel was diagnosed with a rare malignant brain tumor.

1What John did for his son after he had to have surgery to remove the tumor was incredible and he is now being called the “World’s Best Dad” because of it.

2In March 2015, Gabriel was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma, a rare form of cancer. He needed surgery to have the tumor removed from his brain, but he recovered well and has been treatment free for nine months.

His most recent scans show that even though he may still have a little bit of the tumor left in his brain, he is now stable. But, the surgery did leave Gabriel with a huge scar on the side of his head.

Gabriel felt really uncomfortable with his scar saying that he felt like a “monster” and that broke his dad’s heart, so he decided to do something about it that would soon crown him the winner of the St. Baldrick’s 2016 #BestBaldDad competition.

3To help Gabriel feel more comfortable and confident with his own scar, John decided to get a tattoo to match his son’s scar on the side of his own head.

He told BuzzFeed News, “I told him if people wanted to stare, they could stare at both us.” How great is that?

In their annual #BestBaldDad competition, childhood cancer charity funding organization St. Baldrick’s Foundation, John entered with the photo of him and Gabriel side-by-side with the caption, “Me and my son at this year’s St. Baldrick’s event in Wichita, Kansas. Got my son’s scar tattooed to help his confidence.”

4The photo went viral and John won the contest by 5,000 votes! Alison Sutton of St. Baldrick’s Foundation, told BuzzFeed News, “It was the first time we’ve seen an entry where a dad went above and beyond shaving his head in solidarity with his child and got a tattoo to build his son’s self-confidence.”

What a fantastic father John is to Gabriel. This story just makes my heart melt! SHARE their story with your own family and friends on Facebook today!
