An Emotional Commercial Empowers The Single “Left Over” Women In China

Chinese women face incredible pressure to marry before the age of 27. There are marriage markets found in many cities in China where parents will go and post personal ads for their daughters who have not yet found a man to marry.

Now, single women in China are standing up for themselves as being labeled “leftover woman,” or “Sheng Nu.” They are speaking out to defend themselves against their parents and society’s labels and pressures saying that they are in control of what their own destinies should be.

In this emotional documentary-style commercial posted by Skincare brand SK-II, Chinese women are reminded that it is ok to be single and reminded that they can be confident and independent without being pressured to be married.
