Cam Newton and his team are on their way to the Super Bowl! But one thing that makes him so special is that he has a tradition of giving the ball away to a fan in the stands after he scores a touchdown.
In a recent game, he handed the ball to 6-year-old Colin Toler. But but Cam didn’t know at the time was that he had just lost his father…
His father had made the boy a promise to take him to a Panther’s game before be died, but unfortunately he could never make it…
To help lift Colin’s spirits, some friends donated their tickets to his family. He decided to take both of his grandfathers.
After he scored in the 2nd quarter, Green Bay Packers linebacker Julius Peppers threw the ball away from him. But Cam wouldn’t have it, so he ran over to the other side of the field and grabbed the ball.
He then ran over to the stands and spotted Colin jumping with excitement: “I was like oh gosh, oh gosh,” he told WSET13. “Am I going to be on the big screen or am I going to be on TV?! I was jumping up and down like yeah!”
“The back people were like, ‘can I take your picture?’ And I was like yeah,” said Colin. “And the side people gave me high fives and stuff, it was pretty fun.”
Giving the boy the football may seem like a small gesture, but it will be something he’ll remember for the rest of his life.
