Your wedding is supposed to be the most beautiful day of your life, especially if you’re the bride – it’s your day. Well, a bride in Massachusetts – Jill Hawkins – nearly died walking down the aisle, thinking the symptoms she was experiencing were all just a bad case of the nerves.
In an interview with WCVB, Jill said that on the morning of her wedding day, she knew something wasn’t right and she felt a little weird when she woke up.
When Hawkins was a teen, she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, which is a chronic disease affecting the large intestine, but it had not been an issue for her for years.
Hawkins decided to go through with the wedding, despite the terrible pain she was feeling. She made it down the aisle to marry her husband John, even though she barely felt as though she could continue standing up.
After she held out to take a few photos with the wedding party, an ambulance came and rushed her to the hospital. Apparently she had a twist in her intestine that was cutting off blood flow and had to have emergency surgery. The doctors said she could have died from this.
Dr. James Yoo told WCVB, “For this to happen to anybody is a devastating event,” he said. “To have it happen on your wedding day, it’s almost unbelievable.”
On a better note, the surgery went well and it looks like the couple will live happily ever after, even though Hawkins still cannot believe that all of this happened on her wedding day.
