Last week, a blogger shared before and after photos on Imgur of the acne on her face and they’re shocking! She had been taking Prednisone (a steroid used to treat inflammatory conditions and allergies) and she believes the drug had been causing her terrible acne.
Her dermatologist prescribed her Accutane for her acne, but she instead went for the Pill and her acne completely cleared up. Although not every version of the Pill is guaranteed to work for acne, it seemed to work for blogger “seventytimes.”
“When the female hormones are off, the levels of testosterone go up and this imbalance results in male-pattern acne, which is this large, cystic acne affecting the face, chest, and back. So what the Pill does is equalize — or normalize — these female hormone levels, so as the testosterone goes down, the acne goes down.”
Even though Accutane is considered by some to be “the magic drug” for acne treatment, it’s long list of side effects makes taking it a major concern for many people. It’s been linked to birth defects, chronic diarrhea and constipation, dry skin, depression and kidney and liver damage.
For women suffering from cystic acne, the Pill could be a successful option, but make sure to consult with a trusted practitioner regarding your acne treatment.
