Amazing Hospital Program Lets Pets Visit Sick Patients

They say laughter can be the best medicine but smiles will do just fine. 🙂 At the Juravinski hospital in Ontario, Canada they have an amazing program that lets animals visit seriously ill people. The program is called Zachary’s Paws for Healing, launched by Donna Jenkins, and has been a major hit. Jenkins was inspired by her 25-year-old nephew, Zachary, who benefited greatly from having his dogs around him while he was battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“While Zachary was in the hospital for many weeks and very sick after having a stem cell transplant,  he begged to see his dog, Chase.”

“We know that when patients get to see their pet, it can improve vital signs, improve depression and the feeling of isolation, it opens communication back up and it is a reminder for a reason for the patient to get well and return home.”

As a big dog lover and owner myself I can relate that after a tough day or if i have received any bad news, I always go to my dog to cheer me up. (She’s a great listener 😉
