This is gong to hit all animal lovers right in the heart! After Cookie and a young labrador were reported lost, an animal shelter in San Bernardino, California found them living on the streets and contacted the family.
But when the family arrived at the shelter, they only claimed their young labrador puppy and left their nine-year-old dog behind.
That’s when Lynn Hamilton stepped in and came to Cookie’s rescue! She and her team at the OC Small Paws UT made sure to try and find Cookie a loving new home.
Unfortunately, this is a very common problem in the U.S. where older dogs with health problems are left at shelters. And in the case of Cookie, vets discovered that she had 12 cancerous tumors. But after a little TLC and surgery, they were able to remove most of them!
Lynn and her team decided that due to her medical conditions, it was better that she stay under the care of one of the vets.
We always try and recommend that people adopt before they shop and never overlook an older dog. They can sometimes live many more years and provide just the same amount of love!
